This Sunday, July 8th, in Glen Cove, a 20-piece Swing Band ensemble, fresh from its fifth appearance at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing, will hit the stage at Morgan Park in Glen Clove. 2012 marks the 53rd year of amazing free concerts from Morgan Park.
Led by Steve Shaiman, the band presents Big Band classics by such legends as Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, to name just a few. Special for the 2012 summer tour is a 100th Birthday tribute to Les Brown and his Band of Renown. The band’s performance features Bobbie Ruth, a singer in the great tradition of Big Band vocalists Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Helen O’Connell.
