Long Island is gearing up for Marathon Weekend. Long Islander’s as well as runners and athletes from the Tri-State area are watching the weather and getting ready to participate in the annual Long Island Marathon.
40 years ago in the 1970’s the marathon started with a single race, it grew significantly over the years with the addition of a Half Marathon and a 10K race, 5K race, 1 Mile run and Kids Fun Run.
Marathon Weekend kicks off with the Sports & Fitness Expo on Friday, May 1st. All of the Long Island Marathon Weekend events will be taking place in the Eisehower Park, East Meadow area and around the Mitchel Athletic Complex.
On Saturday, May 2, 1 Milers, and 5K runners will start on Charles Lindbergh Blvd and finish on the 1998 Goodwill Games world-record-setting track inside the Mitchel Athletic Complex.
Sunday, May 3, Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K runners will start at the same time on Charles Lindbergh Blvd. and finish the race in Eisenhower Park. There is a fun-filled, family friendly Finish Line Festival for all runners which will be featuring live music and light refreshments.
