All Weekend Long
The fall themed festivals and carnivals have begun! The Long Island Fall Festival in Heckscher Park in Huntington is here! Live music, food, vendors, contests, carnival, a beer and wine tent, and much more family fun will be there. There is also the Egyptian Festival in Woodbury, featuring food, movies, lectures, movies, crafts, raffles, prizes, a carnival, and more, including information about the history of the Egyptian culture. The Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington will also hold the Fine Art and Craft Show Expo all weekend long with paintings, sculptures, jewelry, lace, pottery, and other vendors selling homemade items. In Port Washington, the Greek Festival on the Harbor rides, games, music, food, vendors, and fun for the entire family, including fireworks on Saturday night.

Looking for something to do with the kids home from school? Visit BounceU in Farmingdale, which is offering open sessions for all ages throughout the day. Afterward, head on over to the 42nd Annual Dog Show in Oyster Bay at Planting Fields Arboretum. There’s an all breed dog show, obedience and rally trial with prizes for best puppy in show, guided dog show tour, education, vendors, food, and more. At night, you can see Chris Brown at Nassau Coliseum or hone your dessert decorating skills at the Party Perfect Cupcake class. Whether it be your child’s birthday dessert or an upcoming holiday party at which you want to impress your friends, the class will show you the “swirl” technique and “ticings” edible images, including making your own buttercream. The class comes with everything you need, but you will need to call for reservations.

On top of all the festivals that are sure to be packed with fun this weekend, the farmers markets are going to soon come to an end. Before they do, check out the Locust Valley, Port Washington, Massapequa, or Long Beach markets today. Over in Amityville, the Rotary Club is having an Apple Festival featuring fresh apples and apple treats like pies, cider, and more including vendors, face painting, and music.
Sunday, October 2
If you’ve already visited the festivals for the weekend, take a break in Syosset at the NY Autofest Car Show. Awards, amazing cars, food, vendors and music will be there and visitors will receive gift bags from Cactus Salon (while supplies last) and Sears coupons. There is also the Antiques and Antique Car Show in Great Neck with vintage cars and vendors featruing collectibles and jewelry like dolls, ironstone, comic books, toys, and more. The dog shows are back today in Oyster Bay with 63rd Annual Obedience and Rally Trial as well as the All Breed Dog Show. See the dogs, watch them compete, and get educational demos like that on nose works, dogs trained in scent discrimination. The West Hempstead Street Fair is today with crafts, gifts, antiques, and food.
