Exhibition: Women In Contrast

Curated by Kristy L. Caratzola, the Museum’s former collections manager, this original exhibition features iconic imagery captured by a selection of innovative modernist and contemporary female photographers, including Berenice Abbott, Diane Arbus, Marilyn Bridges, Nancy Burson, Imogen Cunningham, Donna Ferrato, Toni Frissell, Mary Ellen Mark, and Dorothy Norman. This exhibition is offered in association with the 17th Berkshire Conference on the History of Women, Genders, and Sexualities to be held at Hofstra University June 1-4, 2017.

 

Funding support has been provided by Astoria Bank, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and Barbara Roux.

Long Island FunFest

Long Island’s largest fair features concerts, a petting zoo, old-time sideshow acts, children’s game shows, fireworks, favorite fair food, games and rides for all ages, from fun kiddie rides to state-of-the-art thrill rides, along the magical midway.

Included with fair admission are the Records and Burpee Children’s Zoo starring more than 50 exotic and unusual animals under the big top, Kidbucks game shows, Saturday night fireworks, and the World of Wonders Oddity Show featuring 10 exciting acts from a fire eater to a sword swallower to a knife thrower.

Also free with fair admission are 7 pm concerts by Presley & Taylor (June 16), La Elegancia de la Salsa (June 18), NoteWorthy Band (June 19), Klassic Rewind (June 20), Bugsy Jones (June 21), Just Sixties (June 22), Frankie Justin Lamprey (June 23), Mariachi Sol Mixteco (June 25) and many more.

Fair admission is $2 Monday – Wednesday, $5 Friday – Sunday, and free for dads accompanied by a son or daughter on Father’s Day, June 18. On $40 Carload Thursdays, pay only $40 per vehicle for admission and unlimited rides for all legally seated occupants. Walk-ins on Carload Thursdays are $20 per person.

Unlimited ride wristbands are $25 per person Monday – Wednesday and $30 Friday – Sunday. Ride tickets are also available onsite for $1.50 each, $25 for 20 tickets, or $50 for 50 tickets plus 1 free ride. Rides take 3 or more tickets each.

Fair hours are 5 to 11 pm Monday – Friday and noon to 11 pm Saturday – Sunday. Visit Long Island FunFest for the entertainment schedule and coupon savings on rides and food. For more information, call 866-666-3247.

Westbury Market Fair- Flea Market Vendors Return to Westbury!

Westbury Market Fair Remember the Roosevelt Raceway Flea Market? Well the vendors have finally come back to Westbury!  Shop outdoors at the new Westbury Market Fair. Over 150 vendors will be at the NYCB Theatre Parking lot area every Saturday and Sunday for the rest of the year. Shop at the new Westbury Flea Market.

Converging Voices: Gender and Identity

This original exhibition, curated by Karen T. Albert, Hofstra University Museum deputy director and chief curator, focuses on issues of gender and identity, reflecting an international scope and featuring artists such as Ghada Amer, Mariam Ghani, Guerrilla Girls, Yee I-Lann, Zanele

Muholi, Pinaree Sanpitak and Carrie Mae Weems. The exhibition is offered in association with the 17th Berkshire Conference on the History of Women, Genders, and Sexualities to be held at Hofstra University June 1-4, 2017.

While exploring specific works displayed at the David Filderman Gallery, children create their own keepsake artworks inspired by the art and cultures they discover along our new Fall 2014 theme: “Tell Me a Story”
